Late 17th to early 18th century Japanese scroll painting on rice paper centrally depicting the deceased Buddha wearing polychromatic painted draped garb, resting on a altar surrounded by mourning figures with an array of naturalistically painted animals in the lower section. The sky stylistically painted with clouds and immortals viewing the scene below.. All painted on a beige ground bordered in golden brown silk and mounted in a gilt wood frame. Signed lower right. Painting measures 79 1/2" x 59 1/2" + 6" mat & frame.
